Spaces in slumber scattered around our cities tell us stories of change and transition. They are markers of change that can range from the intimate and private to global political and economic processes of change, dictating abundance and scarcity and leading us to think: whose scarcity, whose abundance? These questions help us to rethink larger global processes linked to processes of extractions and how they manifest locally through these spaces. Join us for a panel discussion to understand and rethink larger global procedures linked to processes of extractions and how they manifest locally through these spaces.
Panelists:
Dominique Petit-Frère - Co-founder of Limbo Accra and exhibitor at SAT02 with the project "SUPER LIMBO", inhabiting a mall in Sharjah that is in a state of stasis.
Oyindamola Fakeye - Art curator and director of CCA Lagos. She co-curated the second Lagos Biennial (2019), "How to Build a Lagoon With Just a Bottle of Wine". The biennial’s venue was the 25-storey Independence House, an occupation that had its own share of challenges but resulted in an extremely interesting spatial activation.
Reem Khorshid - Lead researcher of the publication 'Building Sharjah', Reem has been invited to be able to situate Sharjah Mall in its immediate context — bringing to the conversation a historical urban background of the Al Khan area.
Time: 17:00 - 18:00
Venue: Sharjah Mall
The panel was moderated by Sara Bokr, and panelists include Dominique Petit-Frère, Oyindamola Fakeye, and Reem Khorshid.
